bones - distort shapes downward (e.g., open a mouth)
How do you set/bind bones to distort a shape downwards, such as opening a mouth? I don't want the shape to rotate. I want the shape to extend from the lower center, or from the right & left edges. Thanks.

Translate the bone.

As slowtiger says, you can simple translate the bone. To do that, select the Transform bone tool and drag the bone from the circle at its base (The translate bone tool has shortcuts too and they are useful when clicking over the circle is not easy: hold Alt while dragging to translate, hold Ctrl while dragging left/right to scale).
This kind of movement can also be made with smart bones (for instance, the smart bone could animate vectors, meshes, bones or anything inside the character)
