Save As Template?
Hi.
I only just noticed the "Save As Template" option in Moho after all these years.
Can anyone explain what this feature is for?
Cheers

Re: Save As Template?
The "File > Save As Template" command is what you use to populate the "File > New From Template" menu.
You can create a set of projects that you use most of the time to quickly start with. If you find yourself doing the same sequence of steps over and over again when you create a new project, that command is right what you need.
For example, I often need to create icons for my scripts, so I created a template 24x20 pixels with 1 frame animation duration. Another template I use is 320x240 for web illustrations.

Re: Save As Template?
Ahhh....Makes sense! I've always just saved my own templates in a custom template folder!
Thanks Stan

Re: Save As Template?
I just updated to 13.5.5 and Moho has forgotten where my templates were, and Save as Template is not an option. And so I found where the default templates are and put my template in there but it's a .moho file while the defaults are .anme, and Moho does not recognize it as a template.
Dead end at every turn. Didn't they think through this? So frustrating.

Re: Save As Template?
This may sound obvious and pain staking (if you have a lot of templates) but I'm assuming you can open up your template files as regular moho files then re-save them as a template?

Re: Save As Template?
Templates work fine here, whether they are anme or moho files.
Any file in the Custom Content Folder/Templates folder will be found, at least after restarting Moho.
You might make sure 13.5 is pointing to the right custom content folder you want to use.

Re: Save As Template?
You need to point Moho to the Custom Content Folder you used previously so Moho can save and retrieve files from that location. When you have this set, Moho will automatically find the Templates folder.
To find your previous Custom Contents Folder, open your previous version of Moho (assuming you hadn't uninstalled it*, and look at the directory set in Preferences or choose File > Open Custom Content Folder. Then launch the new Moho and point it to that folder from Preferences.
As a general rule of thumb, you don't want to install third-party scripts or otherwise modify the contents of the Moho program folder. This is what the Custom Content Folder is for. You can point the Custom Content Folder to your documents folder or to any drive that has plenty of space.
Also, I prefer to keep separate folders for each release of Moho. This is because not all scripts are compatible with every version of Moho, and keeping them separated prevents unexpected errors.
*Note: it's not necessary to remove old versions of Moho, in fact it's a good idea to keep at least the previous version on-hand just in case you need to fall back on it. For example, in my case I keep Moho 12, 13, and 13.5 on the same computer, so I have three custom content folders which I keep here...

Hope this helps.

Re: Save As Template?
Thanks Greenlaw, you nailed what the problem was. I've never understood what the Custom Content Folder consisted of, and every time I've installed a new version and is asks me about whether I want to set it, it's always a point of stress. They really should have a better explanation of that when it asks you whether you want to set it. Well they probably do and I haven't paid attention. Anyway, I understand it now. At least until next time I need to know what it is at which point all this will have been forgotten...

Re: Save As Template?
Glad that was helpful!
And, yeah, I agree that Moho should do better at explaining why setting the Custom Content Folder is useful and desirable. By making the Custom Content Folder sound completely optional, I think many new users tend to skip that step the first time they launch Moho and then forget about it until it becomes a problem (like after they've messed up their program directory by replacing the scripts there.)
