Lip Synch Not working!! Need help fast!

Post by jedibugs »

Hi guys,

I'm doing an animation for a music video that I have to turn in tonight and the whole thing is done except lip-synching. I've done all the work in Papagayo, exported, set the DAT file as my switch layer's source, keyframes show up and everything...but no mouth movement. My phonemes are named correctly, and I even tested the DAT file on another project and it works in that one just fine.

The only thing I can think that would be preventing this from working is that I'm using images for the phonemes. Is there some reason that a switch layer won't do images?

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,

-Shawn McBee

Should work with Image-Layers as well.
Did you moved the images to another folder ?
(Maybe a good idea would be to save it all in one Project-Folder).

Try and reconnect the images to the Image-Layers again.
(open the Image-Layer-Settings/open the Image-Tab/tick Source Image/
and select your image).

Do the same with the Switch-Layer-Settings
(open the Switch-Tab/tick Source-Data and select your DAT-File).

Does that make any difference ?

Cheers

Also, some quick bits to look out for - if you happen to have one of the sublayers in your switch layer selected in the layer panel the switch layer won't change when you play the animation. Make sure that the switch layer names are exactly the same as what is in the .DAT file. The layer names must match the phoneme names in the dat file exactly - and case matters. If you open up the .DAT file in a text editor you can quickly check if thats you problem. If they don't match exactly, the Switch layer isn't going to do jack.

No restrictions due to using images inside switch layers that I'm aware of, except of course interpolation don't work (but I'm sure you already got that).

Hi Nolan,

The images are all there--I am keeping everything in one project folder...it's just not switching between them.

I imported vector mouths from another character and tried them on this project and they worked fine. Unfortunately, those mouth shapes aren't remotely compatible with this project.

Thanks for your help,

Thanks for the tips Brian. I checked them out and everything matches up. Nothing's selected.

I'm getting really stumped here.

Brian, it was the names after all. They were image files, so Moho put the file extention on the layer name by default. I was lloking at the name, not even thinking about the file extention. It works now. Thanks a lot.

No sweat. Sometimes it's the things right in front of you that are the most confusing.

As a sidenote: turn off the hiding of extensions of known file types, so you're less likely to make these kinds of mistakes. Only turn hiding on if you want to do things like renaming files, while the extension has to remain the same. After that, turn off hiding again.
