Convert Bone Groups and Switch to Normal Groups

Post by Wesleysales3d »

Hey guys! I'm new to the Moho world and I'm still learning. Loving the new changes and the renewal of everything. Thank you team LostMarble!

My question is this: When I convert a normal group to a bone group or a switch group, how do I convert this group back to the normal group (basically acting as a container)?

It seems that after we convert there is no possibility of going back or converting a switch group into a group of bones as well.

Wouldn't it be a basic function to exist?

If you're changing a group into a bone or switch layer, you're adding functionality. But if you're going the other way, you're losing functionality and could even lose rigging or animation you've already done. No software wants to make it easy for you to lose work. You can use a bone layer as a group layer, as they are the same, aside from the bones. For Debut users, this is their only option, as they don't have group layers.

You just have to undo if you accidentally convert a layer.

Going from a switch to bone layer, you could still lose switch layer animation. If you really need to do this, just copy the bones to a new bone layer. If the switch doesn't have any bones, just move all its layers to a new bone layer.

Thanks for the answer and the alternatives.

But I thought that even though it is destructive behavior, it makes sense to have this option, especially during setup and if you transform a group and don't pay attention, where undoing the action is not feasible. It would be simpler than creating a new group and transporting the layers.

You can shift-select all the items within the group and right-click Group With Selection. Then move the new group out of the old group. Not a big difference, but this way is slightly easier and might be more reliable than moving a bunch of layers to another group.

In normal use, it should be rare that you'd have to do this. If I ever make a group conversion accidentally, I just Undo it.

It makes sense, once you get used to the workflow, it will be rare to happen. Great, thanks for the tip too!
