Perspective Mesh Idea
Thought I would try an idea for flowing river using the Perspective Mesh. I just animated scrolling lines inside a mask (which was just a rectangle) and in another layer outside the mask group I added the mesh which had to cover all the lines in the layer which went outside the mask so I could loop it. As long as the mesh covers both layers the perspective works, giving the impression of looking down at a river. My sample was very simple just to see if it would work. Another words you can add the mesh to more then one layer at a time and animate the layer and it works for layers inside a mask as well. And of course you can animate the mesh. Animating a layer in perspective has lots of potential and would be alot more simple then the quad mesh if you really don't need it. Anyway hope this might be useful to someone.

The lines are duplicated so that I could loop it. The mesh has to cover where the lines are in the entire animation, top and bottom of the rectangle. Like I said very simple set up wanted to see it work before I started creating ripples and or waves.
The mesh itself is animated slightly as well.
