Wondering how to accomplish a certain animation task? Ask here.

Techniques Summary for Using Meshes etc with Painted Bitmap / Raster Images

Post by johnfromncl »

I'm interested in using Moho to animate characters and objects painted in other software (in my case Corel Painter) for an animation project, probably entirely avoiding filled-vector-shape rigged-characters. This is because I'm interested in maintaining the variation of brush-stroke visible in digital raster-based art in the animation, and will be using Moho rather than something like a frame-by-frame approach in something like TVPaint that would result in boiling and that would be a slower way of working.
I'm aware that many great ways of working with images (photos, or digital art bitmaps) have proliferated in Moho recently, mostly focused around new forms of meshes. I've been thinking of trying to construct my own set of notes to share (name of mesh or bone system in question, typical uses for that specific technique (e.g. limited head turn, walk cycle or whatever), location of available Moho files created that show the technique, written notes and videos of how to do this, links to discussions about these in forums, etc). Before starting from scratch, I'm wondering if such a listing - or partial listing - already exists somewhere. I'm thinking of a listing that would include quad meshes, live meshes, the bones used for the walking husky demo, an image deforming when following a path, and so on. These have all been documented - I'm after a central pointer to where those pieces of documentation are: a summary of technique name and links perhaps. I'm happy to add to any partial listing, but currently I couldn't tell you for sure if a 'smart mesh' is a figment of my imagination or not, so I'm likely to miss things in searching the forums, and I want to avoid recreating the wheel if possible. I have the latest Pro 13.5.2 version installed on an Intel iMac, so am looking for all that is currently possible.
Any pointers gratefully received, and hopefully a simple answer, or a list built in this thread over time, will be of use to many others as well.

this was created to test the new 13.5 functions. http://www.lostmarble.com/forum/viewtop ... 2&p=195689

The image is multi-layered - created in Krita - exported as pngs, one per layer - total of about 20 layers.
ferns, screen right, were rigged with bones; the bones then animated using the Wind function.
fungi, screen left and centre, covered by warp mesh - point animated.
particle layers for the pollen burst and for the ripples
