My desktop PC runs windows 10, I right-click on the desktop and the pop up menu has the option "NVIDIA Control Panel". Once running the Control Panel, the "Desktop" menu has the option "Display GPU Activity Icon in notification area". Enable this and you get activity icon on botton bar which reveals what applications are using the NVIDIA card.

My system might be different to yours as I have disabled updates to the NVIDIA drivers ( in fact I have placed a rule in the firewall so NVIDIA is not allowed to go through the firewall to get updates!). One day I woke up to find my system very unstable and after much faffing about discovered the nvidia driver had updated itself overnight. I cant remember but it might have installed the nvidia experience during the update. After managing to find the driver that came with my system and reinstalling that, the PC was stable once again. I think I disabled auto-update of the driver but a few weeks later it happened again - it updated itself. So after that I placed a rule in the firewall to prevent that happening again. I think most updates are games related and since I dont play games it doesn't effect me.

IMO, unless you have a really old computer, it's best to use the latest official non-beta release available.

From time to time, I just check for the latest driver package on Nvidia's website and download/install it. All relevant control panels are included. (I also make sure our computers are backed up weekly in case something awful happens.)

In the past, I've owned tablet computers that required device-specific versions of the drivers, which became a pain when the manufacturers (HP, Wacom) stopped providing driver updates. Fortunately, there are really smart guys out there who owned the same devices and knew how to hack the official drivers to make them work.

Anyway, I haven't had to do that for any of our current home computers. The official drivers from the Nvidia website works fine for all of them. Our systems run on Windows 10, and we've have never had to download Nvidia drivers or control panels from the Windows store.

I saw some pretty bad reviews at the store. The NVidia site doesn't have the download for it just drivers. But yea I usually check once in awhile for the latest drivers and download them then.

Which graphics card do you have?

I seem to recall having this issue a year or two ago, when Windows 10 reported I needed to download the control panel from the Windows store. It turned out a Windows update updated my Nvidia drivers without my permission, and it was not the correct or latest drivers for my card. I had to completely remove the drivers that Windows installed. It was a pain because I had to search the files and may even have had to change registry entries. There's info about that if you search.

After the files were removed, I was able to reinstall using the official Nvidia drivers and I got the control panel back.

I don't know if that's what happened to you but it might be worth looking into.

A quick Google search right now turned up a handful of forum posts saying that if the control panel is missing it probably means the wrong drivers or driver package is installed, which is consistent with what I wrote above.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 but the control panel seems to be working I did find it on the right click on my desktop. It's just weird I couldn't find it doing an actual search in windows? I found the same when I searched the web about the wrong drivers.

Ah, yeah, that's how I access it, r-click on the desktop. Glad to hear you worked it out.

GTX 970 is the same card I have in my desktop, btw. :D
