MoWho 3D Dalek
Hi.
I have some spare time and wanted to share this faithfully recreated 1960's style Dalek entirely made in Moho using 3D vectors
and Moho's 3D toolset. (Thanks to Wes for creating a neat little tool that makes it a lot easier to animate 3D Moho characters).
The modelling took a day or so and along the way I found a little Texturing bug that needs looking into at some stage. For some
reason when you add a texture to a 3D extruded object you can't change it on the fly. You have to close and reopen the file or
deselect the 3d option change the texture then re-select the 3D option.
Cheers

Pretty damn cool. Really impressive 3D quality.

Re: MoWho 3D Dalek
Great work. Love the background too.
I could probably add a button on that tool to reset the 3D option and update the texture. Just have to make sure that works doing it by script. Not this weekend, but hopefully next.

Re: MoWho 3D Dalek
Wow! Amazing! I didn't think Moho was capable of such complex 3d modelling/ animation. Great stuff.
Re: MoWho 3D Dalek
EXTERMINATE!!!!
That's pretty cool DK. Curious to see how you set this up.

Re: MoWho 3D Dalek
Hi Everyone and Thanks for all the nice comments.
Here is a zip of the Dalek head to show how it is set up.
http://www.creativetvandmedia.com/Forum/DalekHead.zip
The rest of the body
done exactly the same way. The only shape I had trouble re-creating was the
strapping around the mid section which involved an angle i couldn't recreate with
Moho's vector 3D tools. I had to do shape stacking to emulate it. If you look closely
the join in the strapping on the Dalek's mid section juts out on the edge and a bit
bulky but it looks ok I guess. The Texturing technique used is to give the 3D shape
"No Shading" as there are no lighting controls in Moho so you have to rely on Image
Texturing to do the job. Below gif is done via passing the model through a semi
transparent layer to emulate a lighting effect.
Oh and Wes directed me on the voice acting

Cheers

Re: MoWho 3D Dalek
Only problem with this lighting technique is I don't know how to get the dome lights to flash
as they are covered by the front layer?? Any suggestions?

Re: MoWho 3D Dalek
I looked into it a bit, but couldn't find any way to do it, using 3D shapes like that.
I may fiddle with it some more, as I have time.

Re: MoWho 3D Dalek
That Dalek head is excellently composed and very inspirational. Makes we wanna play with Moho 3D Vector modelling. Something that I had largely written off. Certainly food for many thoughts ...

Re: MoWho 3D Dalek
Hi SimplSam.
I actually used photos of the old Daleks and worked off them to try and get it spot on as I could. If Moho had one more tool in it's 3D tool set you could actually build anything. That tool would be along the lines of 3D masking or in 3D Modelling known as a Boolean Drill. I tried and tried to get masking to work in 3D but it's impossible.
Cheers

Re: MoWho 3D Dalek
Yeah, if masking or booleans worked with Moho 3D, excluding the lights from the lighting layer would be easy.
