Realism with vector designs within Moho
Does anyone have any tips or techniques for creating very realistic vector designs within Moho? Apparently this is possible in AI but not sure how to achieve this within Moho itself
Re: Realism with vector designs within Moho
It depends on your definition of 'realistic'. Do you mean vector art that looks like a photograph? It would help if you posted examples of what you want to do.
If that's what you mean, I wouldn't bother creating it as vector art for Moho. For realistic images, it's easier and more efficient to animate bitmap images in Moho. Using Moho's mesh system, you can do a lot with a high-res photographic bitmap image.
Technically speaking, yes it is possible to create realistic images with vectors in Moho but the amount of data required will hog all the computer resources when you try to animate, making your rig too slow to be practical. A reasonably sized bitmap image with an efficiently designed mesh shouldn't have this problem.
On the other hand, a bitmap isn't resolution independent like vector art. You need to weigh how you intend to use the artwork in your animation. What I sometimes like to do is create simple vector shapes filled with photographic textures...this way, combined with bones and reasonable meshes, I can have the best of both worlds.
Hope this helps.

Re: Realism with vector designs within Moho
Me and a forum member named Parker dabbled in realistic vector art on Moho.
Here's one of mine:

And here's a forum member who posted a "making of" for realistic vector art in Moho:

As you can see, it's a ton of work and would be a nightmare to animate.

That's from 2011, if you can believe it. Haven't repeated the effort since.

Yeah thats awesome Wes cheers, cgeers Greenlaw too, I just like the amount of control you get with vectors within Moho, but i guess really I could just improve my skills animating bitmap with mesh in Moho...any tips you guys might be able to point to would be cool, but no pressure, appreciate the responses already. I can create quite hyperrealistic images in procreate, but just not that experienced in terms of animating such images.

Victor Paredes has some brilliant examples and tutorials for bitmap meshes.

The principles are the same for cartoon or realistic.

Love the eyes on your one above Wes!!!Most realistic I've seen.

Looking at it after so long, I think I might have overdone the soft edge effect for the blending.

Also needs to be bigger to see the freckled skin texture.
