Tried importing the test obj directly into Moho 13 this time. The materials do not automatically come into Moho with the object but it's easy to set up.
1. Import the obj. It will be added to a 3D layer.
2. Open the Material tab in the Layer Settings window for the 3D layer.
3. Select the material with the UV map (in this case, I had named it
Pano.)
4. With the Browse button, select the texture.
5. Click Apply. The texture should appear immediately.
6. Adjust the material settings to what you want. If you want the image to look exactly as painted, set Ambient Intensity to 100%. Set Diffuse Int and Specular Int to 0%.
As described before, you'll probably want to center the camera and scale up the sphere.
If you click and drag a corner of the 3D layer's transform widget, it should scale proportionately.

Re: Pano Painter, an Interesting program.
I wrote to him/her/ them at Pano Painter and within 2 hours they solved the problem.
Fastest response for software support in my memory. So back in business.
By the way Affinity Photo has the ability to do the same thing, paint pano from scratch or from imported panorama.
Later stay well everybody.
I started the distancing thing back when I hit 60 yro now I'm a hard core curmudgeon.

Re: Pano Painter, an Interesting program.
Cool! Glad they got you up and running.
Re: Affinity, I didn't know it could do that. Photoshop CC has this feature too (3D > Spherical Panorama,) which is what I use at my work to paint/edit panoramic images. I guess this is more common than I thought.
But Pano Painter is much more affordable and I like supporting and promoting indie developers with good ideas. Will continue to play around with it and when I'm more comfortable with using Pano Painter, maybe I'll record a how-to video.

Cool!
Thanks. I thought it was odd that I only saw JPG but glad to see there are actually several formats under the arrow.
