Batch exporter running out of memory

Post by slowtiger »

My iMac has 16 GB of RAM, but that doesn't seem to be sufficient for the job right now. I've got 3 files (actually the same file but with different camera moves) which are quite small because they only contain imported bitmaps - that's easy. But there's a quicktime video of 3000 x 3100 pixels, only 25 frames long, which appears 12x in the frame, and this causes trouble:
- putting all 3 files into the batch exporter causes it to crash at the 2nd file rendered about 90% (I hate that). Mac asserts the batch explorer needs 64 GB of memory (what)?
- putting only one file in works, but putting the 2nd in crashes again. Same error message.
The only thing that seems to work is to re-start the exporter after each file. The resulting file is 17 sec long and takes 1,25 GB in Apple ProRes.

Looks like a memory purge issue to me?

(Also I have the impression that the exporter stalls when the screen goes to sleep, but this has to be verified yet.)

I wonder if the number of Render Threads in Preferences is set too high for your computer. As this value is increased, the amount of RAM required to render the project also increases.

In the past, I believe Moho was fixed at 4 threads with the option to render with only 1, but Moho 13.5.5 users are free to increase or reduce this number. Try reducing this number and see if it makes a difference.

FYI, I have mine set to 6 even though my computer is capable of 12, and so far I've experienced no trouble rendering with this setting. That said, I rarely need to render higher than FHD res. If I had to go higher with the res, I'd probably have to reduce the number of threads used so more memory can be allocated to each frame.

Hope this helps.

I also found mine works best setting it at half my computer's capacity.
