Translate layer tool not working on frame zero

Post by Mattyj »

The translate layer tool does not seem to be working on frame zero, in a specific file. If I attempt to use it on frame zero (on an image or a vector layer) it does not resize the layer but instead creates a key frame on frame zero. It works fine in other files, including the sample files that load on opening Moho.

Hm...that does sound odd.

Maybe you have that layer offset on the timeline so framed 0 is actually off screen? I do that by mistake sometimes (Shift+RMB Drag on time bar,) when I'm not paying attention.

It's easy to check this by looking the position of the green arrow, which should be aligned with frame 1. If you offset it too far to the right you'll see a green bar which is the layer's frame 0...normally this is hidden under the actual frame 0. If it's offset too far to the left, it's hard to tell how far it's offset since Moho doesn't let you look at frames earlier that 0.

You can also check the layer/track alignment in Sequencer.

If I'm not mistaken, someone wrote a script that lets you manage layer/track offsets another way. I'd have to look that up to be sure.

There is a rare situation where Moho gets confused and creates a keyframe at zero even though there are no visible keyframes elsewhere. When this happens, what I do is I create a keyframe on a later frame and then copy/paste that keyframe to frame zero. Then I'm able to delete both keyframes and this seems to reset the layer/track.

I'm not sure what causes that problem but fortunately it's pretty rare.

When you say the little green arrow Greenlaw are you meaning the little green arrow that is above the timeline cursor line that moves along the timeline when playing?

It does look like the green arrow is pointing to frame zero rather than frame 1. How do I change that back Greenlaw?

I very much appreciate your help in this forum.

Edit: have figured it out through right clicking on the green triangle, thanks.

With the default color scheme, it's a little hard to see the arrow but, yes, the green arrow is normally aligned with frame 1. You can move it by holding down the Shift key while dragging with the Right Mouse Button. (Sorry, I wasn't clear about the mouse button. I've updated the post for clarity.) You can also slide it from inside the Sequencer.

This tool by SimplSam is the one I was thinking about:

ss_sequencer

It has a UI that let's you enter the frame offset numerically. Very handy when you need to be specific.

Hi Mattyj,

Congratulations! Raising a child is crazy hard work...and I mean REALLY hard work...but it can be so rewarding too.

Best wishes for your family!

You can also set the layer offset by selecting the frame and using the menu command Animation>Set Layer Start Time.
