Cannot get Moho to work after restoring system

Post by dws4121 »

Hello. Been here a while but felt compelled to post after having some major issues.

Had an older computer recently crap out on me, so I had to rebuild my computer from the ground up. Was previously using Windows 10, but with the rebuild, had to switch to Windows 11.

After I got the system up and going, Moho was the first program I installed. I ran into my first issue because whenever I tried to start Moho up, I got an error saying msvcr100.dll was missing. I managed to work through that issue so that I could get to the point where it asked me for my license number. Whenever I tried to put in my number, it would tell me it was incorrect. At first, I thought it was because I wasn't able to deactivate the license that was tied to my dead Windows 10 machine. However, I was proven wrong when I pressed the "try pro demo" button and nothing happened.

Are there other .dll files I may be missing that's keeping the program from running? I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but it's still doing the same thing. I've searched the forum and others have said that Moho 13.5 works on Windows 11, so is it possible I'm missing something else? Please help. Thanks!

Re: Deactivation. If you've used up your three activations, you can recover them from the Lost Marble website at this page: https://lostmarble.com/support/

If Moho is not accepting your serial number, is it possible that the the number you have is incorrect? I would check with Lost Marble to verify the serial number.

In any case, the demo version should work but maybe not if the original trial period is expired. But then again, because you essentially have a 'new' system, maybe it should have worked?

Makes me think something else is going on. Maybe you need to do a clean reinstall of Moho. To do this, make sure you delete any files that may have been left behind when using the uninstaller. This includes items in hidden system folders like C:\ProgramData and in the AppData folder.

I read of a few users running into the missing .dll issue before, and I believe the solution is to install a specific Microsoft redistributable. This was discussed fairly recently in the forums so a search should turn up info about which one. BRB.

Thanks for the response. Fixing the .dll error was the easy part. I was just wondering if maybe there were other files possibly missing that would keep the program from booting.

And yeah, the system I'm trying to install on is very new...put the parts together and installed Windows just yesterday. It's my first experience with Windows 11 and so far, I'm not having a good time with it.

Since you brought it up, is it possible something is wrong with the support site also? The new desktop would be computer 3 that its installed on. The only other computer I have it on is an unstable laptop that likes to crash whenever ( that's a whole other can of worms ). But just in case, I did go onto the support page, put in my license # and tried deactivating it. The copy on that laptop still works, though...and on that point, while the Moho Title card was up, I compared the license number on there to the license number I attempted to use to activate Moho on the Windows 11 computer and they matched as far as I could see.

It could be that I'm still doing something wrong...I'll try uninstalling it again and deleting hidden files like you suggested.

Hmm...could it be that some numbers in the SN are actually letters or vice versa? That trips me up sometimes.

The fact that it just gives up makes me think the problem is something else though, like it's having trouble connecting to the server to activate maybe? Activation is normally straightforward so this seems odd.

I'm just guessing now. Hopefully someone with better knowledge about this will chime in soon.

Update just in case anyone's following this...

I went through the hidden folders and tried my best to get everything Moho related deleted and tried to reinstall. I went to Lost Marble's website and downloaded a fresh copy of 13.5. Before I tried my license again, I pressed the " Try Pro Demo" button and again, it wouldn't do anything, no matter how many times I pressed it.

Just on a whim, I pressed the "Try Debut Demo" button, and for some reason, that worked.

Main thrust of the update is, I am very confused right now. Why would Debut work and not Pro?

Edit: For a bit more confusion, I was able to install Anime Studio 11 and it also works fine.
