Requesting support for sharp corners in vector lines

Post by arniee »

I really appreciate how Moho has done its best to make animation easier and more efficient, especially for rigging. However, what prevents me from really using it is the lack of sharp corners when drawing angles or creases, which has been a problem for years indicated in this screenshot below with blue indicators that show the corners.

Adobe Animate, Harmony, and a few other animation software are able to create outlines that are sharp regardless of how it's drawn. The screenshot of these lines drawn in Toon Boom Harmony are an example of what I want the lines to look.

There have been some workarounds for Moho to get sharp corners in lines, but they're not really ideal ways to work with when it comes to drawing or animating; creating fake outlines behind shapes would be complex or take more time than it needs to. The lack of having the option of sharp outline corners is very distressing for animators who have different art styles of their own. Therefore, I'm asking if a new feature that allows vector lines to have sharp corners instead of round is possible for Moho. If that would actually happen in the next update or so, I would love to be able to use Moho more. Can you please add this option in? Thanks.

Yeah, mitered corners are a long time request.

I don't know how well this workaround would work but I suggest just adding an extra short line on where the two lines meet. Think the tail of an Egyptian eye and then sharping that point using width. I remember using a similar method for eye lashes on one of my files. I'll try to upload a test to see if this could work for what you are doing. But I sure hope someone out there has a magical script or brush or at least the new version of Moho will add the feature for you.

This method is not super successful but I guess its something:

Here is a picture of the vector lines for comparison:

Here is a picture of the final product of lines for comparison:

Here is the work file:

I'll probably have to get used to doing this workaround. For now, I still await for a sharp corners feature to be implemented.

When I really need a sharp corner like that, I just outline the shape. This way, I feel I have more control over how it animates. Like so...

That said, yes, I'd love to see proper mitered corners, too, as outlining isn't always practical.

@NanotechBeasts, that's a pretty good hack! Thanks for sharing it. :D

Yours is a clever method! I'll have to remember it. I haven't played around much with outlining features.
