Exported GIFS/MP4s will not upload on websites correctly

Post by Teavee »

When I export my animation as a gif or MP4 it plays fine on my pc, but if I try to upload it to say Discord or Tumblr then the gif/MP4 breaks or crashes my browser. Sometimes things wont show up in the GIF I upload to a website, but it shows up in the orginal GIF/MP4 file. Like I did a test and the lips wotn show up in the Gif I uploaded but they show up in the Gif on my PC when I play the actual file. I'm not sure if this is a bug, or I just don't know how to export properly.

For GIF, many websites and services have a strict limit on the file size or the number of frames. As a test, try rendering a small file (limited color range and/or lower frame rate,) just to make sure it works.

For example, I think GIF in this forum is limited to a hundred or so frames, so I render small sizes at 15 fps, and this usually works fine. When I exceed the limit, the GIF fails to display.

For .mp4 and online service, I've had pretty good luck rendering .mp4 with the H265 codec, but I don't normally render that from Moho. I prefer to render image sequences and then compile the footage in a compositing or editing program. You might try rendering an image sequence and compiling it in another program.

Alternatively, you could upload the animation to YouTube and link the footage.

EZgif is an excellent online option for optimizing and even creating gifs, from image sequences.

There are several options for optimization which can significantly reduce the file size, add an effect or scale size while preserving the specific elements (color/s as they are, transparency and similar stuff one would like to maintain). The file of 5-10Mb can be reduced to 400-500Kb without too much noticeable change in resolution, banding, colors... It does require tryouts but rest assured, it is worth it.

Recently I needed swift help with a video file and discovered that Handbrake is still a handy tool for some basic conversions. Several presets for several web platforms are already available but it also has a nice set of additional options.

Both are free from subs, fees or similar.
