Shape clipping not compatible with Patches in 14?

[Yosemite Sam]

So I decided to use the new shape clipping feature for a few simple things. Specifically a trim on some shorts. Works great and is much easier than masking.

However, it does not seem to work if I use that layer as part of a patch. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Not sure why two very basic features would conflict like this. Let me know if you guys need a visual example of what I'm talking about.

Since they are both alternatives to masking, I wouldn't expect them to work well together.
Patches are basically doing masking operations under the hood, but liquid shapes are doing something completely new.
