Precise color adjustments for hue, saturation, brightness

Post by Hoptoad »

I often do my sketches in Procreate. In Procreate's color window, once you've selected a color, you can tweak the color with 3 sliders: one for hue, one for saturation, and one for brightness. So if, say, your green is a little too rich, you can desaturate it a smidge without inadvertently changing the hue.

Can Moho introduce this color-related feature for Fill and Stroke? I spend a lot of time tinkering with colors in Moho, and this level of control would be a big time-saver.

Thanks!

And thanks for all the excellent work on this excellent application. :D

I like this! Thank you.

As you were kindly agreeable to requests, I have two.

One: Could you make the color boxes bigger? They are pretty close to the size of the color boxes in the Style Window, which makes sense. But it would be nice if the color boxes were really big. Like. . .twice as big? Small color boxes seem to be a convention, for some reason, but bigger boxes are easier to see and scrutinize.

Two: Adding an old color swatch beside the new color swatch would be great (ideally they would be contiguous). For example, if the color I'm tinkering with is light gray and I want it a tiny bit darker, seeing the "before" color adjacent to the new color would let me know if I had darkened the light gray enough to be perceptible, or if I should darken it more.

Thanks again!

your requests:

2: sort of done in 0.25 (same download link). Without going in to too much detail, Moho provides a set of standard building blocks for tools such as this -- the swatches used are the "out of the box" ones, so that makes it very simple to make changes such as "just adding another swatch box" ...

... except that making the before and after boxes contiguous and bigger will mean ...

1:... making a custom colour box - not intellectually challenging, but it will take a little longer. I have a major project on at present - delivery at the end of this month - I'll aim for "mid November" for the next upgrade.

Awesome! Thank you.

Mid-November? Once again: Awesome! I'm at an age where 2 months whoosh by like an impala being chased by a cheetah.

Mid November already!? Nope - just found a spare couple of hours and the update went even more smoothly than I dared to hope.

new bigger side-by-side swatch as requested.

V0.35 is now current - and still in the same place: https://mohoscripts.com/script/HS_Colour

as ever, issues / requests / etc , just say.

Wow! This script was already great, but now it's also a joy to use.

I deeply appreciate the larger swatches -- they are much easier to scrutinize. And the contiguous color swatches removed the guesswork from my micro-adjustment, which I'm thrilled about.

I'm going to be using this script A LOT.

Thanks a ton!

I just downloaded this, and the tool icon (PNG) appears to be missing from the zip files.

Looks like it will be a useful tool.

hmm .. thanks for the heads up .. I was pretty sure that its icon was uploaded with the first version -- dunno if it gets wiped out when a new .lua is uploaded -- anyway - it's there now!

New version (v0.65) with extra goodies now available: https://mohoscripts.com/script/HS_Colour

> Custom swatch. Colours (not alpha) can be added to or removed from the custom swatch.
> HSVA inputs can now cyclically scroll past 0 / maximum.
> The "to be" fields can be set by using the eyedropper (the "to be" swatch reinstated from v0.25 and now enabled for input).
> Better presentation of alpha in the preview windows.

as ever, let me know of any problems.

It's getting really good! I wish there was a way to undo what we did, with ctrl+z. I did a test and couldn't undo it. Another issue that would make it even better is to behave like a floating window, that would help a lot!

Thanks for the kind words!

Ctrl-z: can do (will plan to do in next rev). BUT in the same way that Moho won't let you undo changes to the styles window, if this hasn't got a shape to edit, an undo won't undo the change to the style window.

Floating window: I'll give that some deeper thought.

I tried the latest HSV Colour tool, and I think it's very cool, Paul!

I'll use it on my next short and let you know how it goes.
