More bugfix releases inbetween Updates

Post by JoelMayer »

This is more about how updates are handled currently. Every software has bugs, that‘s completely normal and i‘m not criticizing this here. It‘s more that it would be nice if we could get 1-2 more bugfix releases inbetween point updates (updates to another point release with new features or whatnot). Moho has some bugs that we have to deal with for months until the next update is out which is totally fine, i just think it would be good to have a few small fixing releases inbetween. Thanks.

The problem, especially with a very small programming team, is that fixing one bug could cause another. So the more releases put out could actually result in more bugs.
The Moho teams seems to try to balance fewer releases by also trying to include at least a few new features to make it worth the wait.

I understand that but there's plenty of precedence of small teams releasing software more regularly simply to stabilize it. And sure, fixing a bug can introduce new ones but then imagine what adding a feature does so it doesn‘t really make any sense as a trade-off :)

I don't say Moho is inherently unstable, but it is one of the apps where crashes happen more regularly than others in my experience (and I've been using it for a while) and, quite frankly, it is one of the apps where you'll always have little quirks and bugs (tools not working as they should). So personally i‘d rather have a branch of a version really just making it rock solid before even merging new features into it.

Personally, I welcome updates, no matter how small or remedial, but I want to see some downdates. Yes, I invented downdates (afaik). A downdate is when the newest version only takes away features.

I mean, c'mon, some of those characters in the Library need to be retired.

Oh, and don't get me started on the swatches. Does anybody ever use landscape.png? It doesn't even have a cloud in it. Last time I checked, Earth has an atmosphere.

I actually wanted to make a remake of the original Mohoguy lol...

But yea, agreed, there's some bloat that could be removed... Blendshapes, Character Wizard anyone?

Yea the swatches could be reduced as well... or have REAL swatches and not just png's :D

I don't mind about the swatches. I there are much more to be updated on the tools' context menu, 3D texture and lighting (that would make life much more easier if 3D in Moho can improve more, not to be like a 3D software, but at least more precise way of position a 3D things. For now it is hard to tell that the position of the 3D object is at a position we want it to be). The character wizard is okay for me. I don't use it, however, I think it is useful in case we need a quick customizable character to stand in the background, for instant. One more thing is that, if the fixes of the bugs is quicker, it would be great. However, long or quick I still love Moho. ❤️

I think the Moho icon should be the head from the image and the gui should reflect the colors from the old Moho website. That reflects Moho as I remember it as a 2D animation app. I absolutely did not like the "Anime Studio" name back when it changed. Thankfully that's no longer.

If you have the Ruffle plugin, the flash animation in the wayback link above so reminds me of Moho's foundation.

As for bugs and so forth, I believe they do their best to remove all they can and have done a good job over the years of releasing solid releases. LTS releases are nice though.

EDIT: For those who may not want to install Ruffle for what ever reason...
