Walk cycle not stable!
Hi guys,
I noticed that I 'lose' 4 frames in a 240 frames (10 sec) walk cycle. Is there a fix? In order to make animating easy for me, I have chosen 24 frames (1 sec) for one single step/pace. So I know when I have to move the character forwards. I tried all settings for cycles but couldn't find a solution.
Your advice is very much appreciated!

Re: Walk cycle not stable!
I kind of 'fixed' the problem by setting the start of the cycle to the first instead the second frame. But this 'solution' comes with its own bag of problems. Now I have a forward sliding after each cycle.

Re: Walk cycle not stable!
I don't know if this helps in your case, but...
When I use Cycle on the timeline, I use Freeze Pose for the first and last frame, and I make sure these two frames are identical. (I use copy and paste to be sure.) Then, I set the Cycle to begin on the second frame (Moho 14 does this part automatically. In earlier versions, you need to set this manually.)
This ensures that all items cycle correctly and stay in sync, even after retiming the animation.

Re: Walk cycle not stable!
Mine is actually a question. I can't seem to find where to create a fresh post here so I'm replying to this to ask my question.
Please how do I get rid of sliding feet in walk cycle? This happens when I move the character across the screen (after looping the animation) using layer transform tool.
Any tip or tutorial is highly welcome. Thanks.

Re: Walk cycle not stable!
That's always try and error for me. I have that character walking in place, I set a start and end position, then let it run and check if it slides (which it usually does.). Now I shift the end position in time or in place and ckeck again. Repeat until it works. Caveat: set the start key to linear.

Re: Walk cycle not stable!
When foot placement is critical, I like to plot where I want my footsteps to fall to set up the stride. I do this whether working in 2D or 3D, rigged puppets or FBF.
Here's an example from a shot I did for our tutorial series intro...

You can see the fully rendered version in the intro video, but here's a 'crappy' GIF rendered from the project...

This technically isn't a 'cycle,' but I copied and pasted the cycle keys across the timeline and reposed the feet to fit the path.
As for setting foot placement using an 'in-place' cycle to avoid slipping, Victor made a video many years ago showing how to use Relative Keyframing for that. You can probably find it in the Moho Animation channel or Victor's personal channel.
Hope this helps.

I use to do this but it's frustratingslowtiger wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 5:28 pm That's always try and error for me. This technically isn't a 'cycle', but I did copy and paste the cycle sequence across the timelilne, and just reposed the feet to fit the path.

Re: Walk cycle not stable!
Just to be clear, this shot wasn't from a tutorial on walk cycles...it was just a quick demo animation I made for our tutorial series intro.
I do plan on eventually making tutorials for animating all types of creatures, including bipeds. That might be a while, though: I have a list of 'Moho Basics' tutorials I must finish and upload first.

I found this video by Poptoogi very helpful. For those who are struggling with this issue as I do. One mistake I made is, I forgot to reduce the length of the relative cycle to 22 frames. That caused the cycle to have one frame too many each time it completed itself.
