A word to all new users

Post by JoelMayer »

I hope this isn't too corny but as somebody who trains young apprentices (16 and up), the whole AI stuff this week got me thinking and i think it's important for us older users to say this as well.

For any beginner who maybe logs onto this server and sees this: you're probably pretty young (or i'm very old :D ) so just kudos to you for making the step and giving Moho a go and learn an actual skill rather than succumbing to the siren call of GenAI. I promise you it will be worth the work and yes, sometimes frustration but us aging millennials have to salute any kid that chooses the harder path of creating stuff on their own. Just know any first little thing you'll make in this software, no matter how badly it might be animated, is worth a trillion AI generated uncanny videos. So thumbs up to you.

Damn, Boomer here, where's my cane !!!

But yeah, good animation is hard work, I can spot AI crap 10 miles away, I mean, it all looks the same, I am pretty active on Kickstarter, and since a few months back you need to stipulate if you use AI for your creative project, and I have yet to see a project using AI that has reached its goal, so it seems that the public isn't too fond of AI either !!!

There is even a nitwit who tried to copyright an image generated by Midjourney, and the copyright was rejected, the moron went to court, and lost, meaning that whatever is created by an AI cannot be copyrighted, not sure if it's only part AI though, but still, there is a huge debate around AI, personally, I am against any engine that is fed content without the express consent of the owner !

 Or rather, AI animation and Moho animation are completely different things. If some users are satisfied with AI made animations, then they will not be satisfied with Moho. And those who enjoy Moho animation, or those who enjoy creating animation, may not like AI animation. Perhaps it is gorgeous and stunning, but it has no soul and cannot reflect the creator's intention. A true creator should not forcefully seek meaning for random results.

Beginning this year I've started to attend another animator/creator's meeting regularly (it's for all, designers, game developers, sound designers, even some marketing people were spotted). Ai comes up regularly, and I do my very best to talk them out of glorifying it or even believig the hype.

There's a few real use cases for LLM/AI: cancer recognition, for example. But art and animation is not.
