Line Boils in Project Settings

Post by michelvictor »

How can I change the pace of the line boils inside the project settings? It doesn't update every frame, how can I change that?

I don't have much experience with Line Boil, but I think the option found in Project Settings is a global Render Style setting that works with the Render Style settings found in the same panel location. This is the old version of Line Boil in Moho, and what you see in the panel is all there is. When this option is enabled, it affects everything and every frame in the project. It also has nothing to do with the new Line Boil features in Moho 14's Brush Settings.

The newer version of Line Boil allows you to change the frame intervals, which is done in the Brush Settings window. You can specify a frame interval from 1+, and if you set it to 0, it only boils when the line is moving. The cool thing with this latter option is that it follows the interval set for animation, so if your bones are set for 4's, then the line boil changes on 4's, but only when the bones are moving. This behavior resembles traditional animation more than the old version of Line Boil did.

As mentioned, I have little experience with these features, but I think this is accurate. If not, I'm sure someone will correct me shortly. :D

Update: I checked what I wrote by re-watching Victor's video about the new Line Boil option, and yeah, it's accurate. (My brain actually remembered something!) To see this in action, watch Victor's video here:

Moho 14 Tutorials: New brush options & Smart Boil

Regarding the older version of Line Boil in the Project Settings window, I just now checked this feature in old versions of Moho that I still have installed (12.5 & 13.5). In the old versions, the option is called Minimize Frame-To-Frame Randomness. I'm unsure why the option's name was changed because it does confuse the feature with the new Brush options, but I guess the new name is a clearer explanation of what it does. Also, I'm guessing the option works the opposite way now...when enabling Minimize Randomness, it's probably the same as disabling Line Boil in the Moho 14 Project Settings.

Anyway, the old Line Boil in Project Settings works on every frame during the render process, so if you really want to use this version, you need to render the project to see the result.

If you use the new Line Boil in the Brush Settings, you can see the result live in the Working Area.

I hope this helps.

The problem I saw with line boil in project settings is that is not change every frame, is jumping like 2 frames before it changes.
When you use lineboil inside the brush properties you can change this value.
I wanted to use on project settings because I wanted to use for some different effects and is quite handy, but I feel like I really have to edit the brush settings than.
