Gouache painting style backgrounds ?

Post by DominiqueBray »

Hello

My question does not concern Moho/AnimeStudio itself. I would like to make gouache painting style backgroungs for my animations, like in "Code Lyoko" or most japanese series.

I draw, make 2D and 3D animations, and oil painting on canvas, so I am not a beginner in graphic area. But I do not come about to make this kind of paintings. :(

I looked for tutorials or books about it but I did not find... Do you know one ? (in english or french) Or do you have some hints ?

I can make it with real painting and paper, but I would prefer make it on my computer. I own Corel Painter and Photoshop, as well as a cool Intuos 3 tablet.

Thanks to help me.

I have an old version of the Painter WOW! Book (for version 3.1) that had a tutorial by Nancy Stahl on how to create gouache style brushes. I don't know if the newer edition of the book has that tutorial. It's in English, BTW.

You may also want to ask about this over at the CGTalk Painter forum.

Hi Dominique,

Have you tried Portalgrahics Opencanvas? http://www.portalgraphics.net/en/

its Japanese software but there is an English version.. there is a cool event tool which peoples works being 'made' live.

I guess its more like Photoshop though but the art is usually directed to CG manga illustration.

Actually, Deleter release this same program under the title "CG Illust"

good luck!

I had a preview of Painter 7 WOW book with my Painter 8, but there is no painting tutorial. It bothers me to buy the book while I am not sure it will help me.
Ok, I will ask for help at CGTalk Painter forum.

This software looks great, and besides, not expensive. Some pictures in the galleries are marvelous !!! I will download demo to try.
But I do not think my problem is a software problem. I think that is rather a know-how problem. I do not know how to paint this way, I never learned, and I do not come about to find from myself.
Do you own this software ? I read that a book is included, does it teach you to paint ?

Hi Dominique!

Yes i own OpenCanvas, but in regards to a book? no i do not think so. Actually it is just a download and register sort of software. Maybe CG Illust comes with a book, if i is packaged.

I am sorry that i wrote something incorrectly about the 'event' file.
There are files you can download from their website and open them, then watch the artist who made them create it..like they were doing it in front of you. I have learnt alot already from it! :D

I have tried to paint in the style you have mentioned..sorry that i cannot help you so much there..maybe if you did websearch for how to in photoshop or whichever softare you use.

Good luck!
