Help with masking eyes? Its weird!

Post by furnut5158 »

Hellow :D

So far, I was able to make one correct mask for my pupils to move safely in the eye zone without going out.

Good Mask:

However, I did the same thing but the 2nd mask for my 2nd eye animation layer is....off. the pupil slides out a bit! I don't understand =(

Bad Mask:

The layer group Mask for Pupils is set to "Hide all".
Pupils layer is set to "Mask this Layer".
Both Mask layers 7 and 6 are set to "Add to Mask but keep Invisible."

So what is going on? I think I did it exactly the same as the first mask, but the pupil slides out a little for layer Mask 6. It driving me crazy ><;;

Thanks for any help :D :D

The outline width also adds to the mask area, which is probably why your second example is sliding "out" of the mask area - does your first mask example include an outlined shape?

ooh good call :D

yeah, i changed the layer group settings to Reveal All, and look at the two masks.

first mask does not have an outline.

2nd mask (bad one) does!

but....how is this possible? i unchecked the "enable outline" for both masks. how come the 2nd mask still has the outline? O_o;;

**edit**
oh yeah, and it might help if I explain how I did the first few steps. Maybe you can spot the problem:
1.Selected and copied all the points from the original eye outline shape and pasted into the new layer (mask 6).
2.With points still selected, I used Create Shape Tool to make a shape called Mask 6.
3.Disabled the "Enable Outline" box.
4.Noticed the outline is still there...but figured it didn't matter since it disappears when I Hide the group and change this layer to Add to Mask but Keep Invisible.

Apparently that outline showing mattered a great deal. :P

Click on the mask fill shape with the Select Shape tool (see if you get the checkerboard selection indicator) - check that there is no outline enabled in the Style window.
Edit menu, Clear - to make sure there is no second fill shape using the same points.
Repeat until you get construction curves with no fill.

Do your steps 2 and 3 again.

thanks myles!! :D :) :D

Yes that was the problem...when I copied points from layer1 into layer2, it copied the old shape along with it. I figured that if i were to create a new shape over it, or rename that shape to something else, it would erase it. :P

I didnt know each layer held all those old shapes....no wonder why I couldn't get rid of that odd outline! I checked the list of shapes at the top right box...and on layer 6, its got all the previous 5 shapes! Heheh..

Thanks you two for helping out :D My headache is over...but I still need to lie down..agh... X_x
