Newbie Question-Shape Names, Color Picking

I was assuming that you could create a fill/line set by naming it after a shape it's attached to. Recall the shape name in the fill/line dialog box and retrieve the color set. Am I in the ballpark here? So How do you name a shape?

If I am entirely off base, is there a way to color pick? BTW, I'm using the AS Standard demo download.

OK, I think I have the shape thing down, you need to pick with the 'shape selector' tool to get the shape dialog thing happening, and I guess you need to copy and paste the color set into a new layer via that dialogue box if you need it in another layer. BTW, is there a color picker function?
