Keep AS windows positions.

Post by Genete »

Hi,
I have notice that timeline and main drawing window don't maintain their positions and size in the screen although I arrange them. Rest of windows keep position and size.
Is there a way to fix this?
(sorry if the question is solved in the forum, but I've searched about windows positions and get bored of reading hundred of posts...)

Solved.

I tried to arrange them moving the window to its correct position because size was OK. But every time I started AS again the windows were moved again.
I've discovered that if you move the window position not dragging it but pulling from its corners and place it in correct position and size it is keept to new AS sesion.
I'm talking about Moho 5.4 for linux. I don't know if this problem exsits in windows.

In Mac OS X the Timeline window is in a different position when you restart AS. I've tried an utility to train AS, but this app was too buggy for my taste. IMO the problem is that AS uses a proprietary user interface, that doesn't conform to the standards of the operating system, so that sticky window utilities have trouble dealing with it.

I'm working on a PC with amd athlon. Two monitors.
Each time I open I have to reposition.
Is there really a way to not have to do this each time?

I don't have Windows, but you could try if XDesk (shareware) is the solution to your problem. It is a virtual desktop with a sticky windows feature. There are other similar applications, such as goScreen (shareware) and Dexpot (freeware), but I don't know if they support sticky windows (IIRC goScreen does).

I have found a solution for Mac OS X as well, Desktop Manager, although it is in alpha version and only works in Panther (version 10.3). It is on the BerliOS open source website, and the software is free to download and use (at your own risk, because it is alpha). In my case it did remember the position of the Moho windows, even after I quited and restarted Moho. This is a program to keep an eye on.

I haven't found a solution for Linux yet.

Hi Rasheed, I'm using osx too and I tried the Desktop manager, but I couldn't get it to remember the positions of the AS windows, is there some prefernces I have to adjust? I couldn't find anything concerning the window positions. /Desktop manager v.0.5.3)
I'm using osx 10.4.8 on a ppc g4 dual 1.3 ghz with 1.3 gb ram

I haven't got a clue, ulrik. For some reason the problems are gone on my Mac, which runs Panther (10.3.9), and I don't know why.

Anyway, the site stated that the software wasn't tested for anything else than Panther. Furthermore, on a Mac there is really no reason to quite Anime Studio. You can simply hide the application, which ensures that the windows remain on the same spot the whole time, unless you move them yourself.

So, you don't need a virtual desktop.

Try to arrange the windows pulling from its corners or edges not click and dragging the window title. It works for me.
But really it is a bit tedious because the program seems to be averse to change the position, because it seems to do a half of the movement I do each time so I have to repeat several times the pulling from edges to finally obtain the final position. :(

I have just accepted this "quirk" as part of the routine along with the standard file load.
Just nit-picking in the overall scheme of things. It really is a great program.Kinda like a really cool homebuilt sports car.

Moho behaves different on different macs, obviously dependant of the display.
On my Intel Core Imac with 21" display at work Mohjo nicely fills the whole screen.
On my G5 with a 19" screen it did the same. But when I connected a Cintiq 21" display Moho just behaves as if it still were on a 19" screen.

There is. Did you ever notice how much power a sleeping computer consumes? I turn mine off in the evening.

On my AS-5 on XP, I tested this by dragging the bottom right corner out to the size I want, then repositioning the window.

I closed the program and restarted it - it held the new postion.

I then close the file and hit <new> ... it created the windows in the new window positions.

I hope this helps the other PC users.

Rhoel.
