Anyone know of any good programs or ways to create sound effects such as city sounds, cricket chirping, etc.

Here are some clever methods of making certain sound effects with materials on hand, but otherwise you're better off checking your library for sound effect CDs for the effect you want. There aren't many realistic sound effects that can be generated by a program.
