Help, problem with walk cycle

Post by Nephilim »

Hi,

this is a walk cycle of my character. I created it a long time ago and noticed a problem. In the middle of his cycle, one of his legs is brought up and seems to be kneeling on thin air. I pulled the bone down but then when I replayed my animation it gets stuck again! Initially, I had to create the cycle by creating two characters and stringing their animations together but there is always an abrupt pause in the middle. I had to do this because early I noticed the problem with the leg and this was the only way it would work. I recreated the scenario in which the leg isn't behaving by copy and pasting key frames and translating the torso bone accordingly. There is also a problem at the end where the left leg suddenly jerks to the left for no reason. Haven't gone much into that problem, but it would be nice to have some assistance. I already have a walk cycle for this character, but it is very choppy and I wanted to redo it. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you like you can download my file “Walk in the Park” and have a look at the “Animator”-walkcycle.

What happened to his head lol

Thank you for your tutoring and assistance. I actually liked how the original looked except for the bug at the end. Do you have any idea how to fix it? Or am I the only one who uses lock bone for walk cycles?

I took out the bone lock and bone translations first, then I tweaked it from there. I now think that bone locking is not as efficient as this (animating the bones and then translating the layer). It is much less choppy and much easier to work with. If anyone knows what my original problem was and how to fix it, tell me. But, I think this is good enough for now.

That’s an excellent start - add the arms - and some body movements -
and your walk-cycle will be perfect.
