Wow, I never thought it can be done that way, one layer for just the character, you're simply way ahead of me.
I'll practice playing around with the eye and mouth. Still need to figure out how to cut a hole on a shape. Noticed the fill tool worked pretty well along with the define shape tool. I'll get the script and install it too.
Also, I need to get that technique documented as well on ASWiki.
By the way, let me know if you have a simple 10 to 20 minute animation project, I'll donate some my time on it. I could create characters or background that complement the Don theme. But it has to be simple enough for AS5 newbies to work on.
We can use my site to host the files/animations if you're serious about setting up an animation project around The Don theme.

ok, finally got the technique figured out, it took me some time to figure how the pupil properly placed between the eyeball and eyelid.
the example image below shows the style.

thanks funksmaname for sharing. i'll have to find a time to document this technique later.
one thing i couldn't figure out was the alpha of a shape. it seems that i can only adjust alpha at the layer level.

well done! its getting there...
only two things you didnt figure out was that the 'background' (face usually) isnt at the bottom of the stack, but instead you create it into a shape at the front, using the eye lids as a hole in the shape - that way you dont need to have eye lids that hide the pupils... ofcourse if you want eyelids, you can cut them into the face shape instead...
select the outer shape (fact) then select the inner shape (eye) and you will see only the bits out of the eye will be filled when you hit space.t
The other thing - transparency - is the bar next to the colour bar inside the colour picker window, so you can set a different alpha for any shape in there
see file attached.
