Making Aya talk

Post by khegerberg »

I'd like to have the animated character that comes with the program - Aya talk. I've tried importing a .dat papagayo file in the mouth switch layer. There is no sound and then her mouth doesn't move either. Do I have to build bones or alter the "mouth" switch layer that automatically comes up when you import Aya in anyway in order to make it synch up with the sound file?

looking at Ayas mouth switch sublayers, they arent named correctly for use with Papagayo switch layers (is that where you are getting your dat files?)

You have two choices... either open the dat file in txt editor and rename all instances of each shape to match those insode aya's switch layer, or rename aya's mouths to go with the dat file (i.e. AI, O, MBP etc)

Thanks that worked for getting her mouth to move. Now the only problem is there is no sound. I am using a .dat file created in papagayo. Any suggestions?

you have to load the sound seperately - click 'select soundtrack...' under the Animation menu ;)

OK loaded the sound via the animation menu but it won't let me chose the papgayo .dat file - only a wav file and when I load that it has an echo??

It is a two step process...

The dat file is loaded in the switch (no sound)

The matching sound file is loaded as the sound track.

I don't know what is causing the echo. Is it an echo or the sound kind of "stuttering"?

AS has a hard time keeping the animation in sync with the sound. You often get a sort of repeating stutter.

Yes that's what it is - a kind of stutter. It's weird because sometimes it works completely fine and other times there is a slight stutter. I guess it must be like you said related to that particular figure. Thanks for your help.

I think the stutter is a general problem with AS and sound. I have the same problem on Mac and PC versions of AS. Even with simple files. Big complex files forget about it.

AS tries to keep the animation in sync (skip frames). When the sound gets ahead of the animation it sort of "repeats" to "catch up". That's my theory anyway.
