Fill effects problem

Post by JCook »

I am doing point animation to move and reshape a shape that has to move to the left at the same time that it changes shape. I've filled it with a brown color, using the Splotchy effect to give it a little texture. Here's the problem: as the shape morphs and moves left the splotchy texture stays static (which is fine), but then at one point in the animation the whole texture moves left and then stops. I made a style for the fill that includes this Splotchy effect, and that's what I've used for the fill. I've reanimated the points, and looked for accidental keyframes on the layer that moves, and also in the style itself, and haven't found any. Any ideas about why this is happening? I'd like to make it all consistent, that is, either the Splotchy texture moves all the time, or it doesnt' move at all, but I don't know why this is happening.

thanks,
Jack

I've put up a movie to show what I'm talking about. You can view it at:

Splotchy effect

It occurs about 4 seconds in.

I've tried to reproduce the effect and cannot. If you upload the file maybe something hidden can be discovered.

It's kind of.. complicated why this happens. I don't know for sure exactly what is involved but it has to do with how the points move in relation to the whole shape's volume.

For instance the shape is a specific size and as the points move that fill is static within the size of the shape.

At some point enough of the points move to change the general "volume" of the shape causing the effect to "shift".

You could just use a completely static shape on a separate layer (no point movement) and use a mask to show the motion. This will guarantee that the effect won't shift.

It seems that the effect is top-left sticked to the shape.
If you move points to make the shape grow to the right or to down then the effect remains static. If you move points to grow your shape to the left or to upside then the effect moves with those points.
That's how it works...

Vern's solution is the best to make the effect static.

OK, I think I see the problem, and also the solution. So what I should do, then, is make a shape, say a rectangle with that fill, and then mask it, and move the points on the mask instead of the shape itself, right? I think that'll work. Thanks to both of you for your help.
