Here is a very simple lightning effect. There are only a few frames, and timing is encoded into the animated GIF.
Note that the timing in your browser does not necessarily match the timing in the GIF.
Sorry it's both monotonous and, well, sort of "flashy."
Im hoping this ought to be okay as a fleeting image in a movie. The purpose is to establish mood and relationship.
Suggestions welcome.

Looks good! Personally, I would have less definition of the characters on their right-hand side (as you look at them), but that's a personal (and minor!) thing. Well done...
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Here's why Walt is gloomy--he is envisioning his own assassination:
"Perhaps soon, some day or night, while I am singing, my voice shall suddenly cease."
{And a Spanish doubleloon to the first of ye who gets the reference to art history.]

I claim my doubloon! Is it a painting by Mantegna -- can't remember the title (well, maybe half a doubloon then...is that a loon?)

Don't know about art history, but as far back as the ancient Greeks, gold coin were placed on the eye of the dead to pay the Grim Boatman for their passage across the river Styx.
