Testing new characters and AS

Post by nightstand »

Hello AS friends,

We are in production of a new show for NJNTV-PBS and have done these tests of AS.

Your feedback and reviews - both positive and critical, are encouraged.

Note: the new opening uses AS after the theme song is completed. The original opening for the pilot was done in Flash.

Thanks,
Randy

OK, I'll take a stab at this, since I'm also working on resurrecting a nineteenth-century giant.

First, although I feel it's a guilty pleasure, I actually like this.

Sure, it's pretty outrageous to bring the great wizard back as a mugging Johnny Carson type, but you're playing to a tough, tough crowd, and I think your work reflects that. So I would say go for it.

Over all, this generally seems to hit the standards for professional production of a kid's toon, but I'm disappointed that you're not taking more advantage -- a lot more advantage -- of what we know about the real TAE.

Wasn't he deaf? Wasn't he arrogant? Wasn't he brilliant? Wasn't he driven?

To ignore these marvelous personality traits is to throw away pure gold needlessly--hope you can add bits of them into the acting.

The very same principle also applies to the character design--in the case of the hero. Like the bit players, he's cleanly designed, professional, and definitely animatable (which is, alas, more than one can say for my experiments). But think how much greater it would be if you could actually add more of a likeness to the historic TAE.

I really liked the gruff voice of the announcer. I thought he was terrific. It was quite a let-down when Edison's voice lacked the same character.

Oh, one other thing--get a grip on your typography, guys! Check out the wonderful style and flourishes of type in the Age of Edison.
