Brush strokes jitter?

Post by jhbmw007 »

I'm trying to make chalk writing on a blackboard. It came out pretty good using one of the preinstalled brush strokes but when I export the animation the writing jitters a bit. I did forget to check the "minimize frame-to-frame jitter" or whatever it is- but from what I can remember even with that option checked, it still jitters a bit. Am I correct? I'm not a my home computer right now so I can't test it.

AFAIK if the underlying curve don't move and you check out "minimize frame-to frame randomness" then it wouldn't produce frame to frame jitter. If the underlying curve is deformed then the brush is rendered and changes the amount of brush units between each pair of points. The jitter is minimized but not completely removed. It is enough for simple animations.

Chalk writing traditionally is made the other way round: one starts with the complete writing on one layer, then puts another on top of it and erases it drame by frame so teh writing look like it writs itself. This way your chalk could even be a bitmap, which of course reduces jittering drastically ...

There have been several attempts to bring chalk drawings to life, from "Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings" (http://www.thechestnut.com/simon/simon2.htm) to "Chalk Zone".
