Duplicate an Action

Post by Sailor-taurus »

Is there a way to make a copy of an action without having to remake it?

yes, there is a way.
for example, you have two actions (i'll name them "with" and "without").
"with" have ketframes and the "without" haven't.

you must select "without" -using double click- and go to the frame 1, then you must make one click on "with" and press "insert copy" (in the action window).

this way, both action will have the same keyframes.
i hope i have explained it well.

Create a new action, go to frame 1, then select the action you want to copy (only select -one click- not activate edition). Then press the insert copy button (the one on the left of the trash button in the actions window) and it will insert a copy of the old action inside the new action. You can combine in this way several actions in one.

You can also "copy" key frames from the regular time line into an action this way. So if you have a cool set of key frames that you animated in the main time line and decide later you want them to "reuse" in an action you create an action and right click the "Mainline" in the actions palette and select insert.

I forget who taught me that trick... it might have been you Genete... can't remember. Some one here did.

No, you can't copy actions. Actions are "locked" to what ever layer they were create for.

SWEET! I've been looking for this technique for a week. Outlook was bleak. pain was deep. Forums wouldn't speak to a newbie like me. I still have trouble deleting unwanted copied keys but compared to before my work is a breeze.

Thanks guys. ASP Rules!

This looks so simple to do but I can't do it! Is there anybody here who can enlighten me on how to create an action so that I can reuse the animation I created?
