My Tutorial

Post by fiziwig »

They say the best way to learn something is to teach it. So as I learn Anime Studio I'm writing a tutorial for absolute newbies like me. The thing is, newbies like me follow the instructions in the tutorials and yet things go horribly wrong anyway. So what I'm trying to do is to document what things can go horribly wrong and HOW TO FIX them, so the newbie won't be left scratching his head when something doesn't work. Sort of a tutorial that takes Murphy's Law into account.

Anyway, I just complete parts two and three on creating and rigging characters. There's a lot more to do, but here's what I have for those two parts so far: http://fiziwig.com/anim/ The first page is just some random newbie explorations, but page two and three starts out with the serious lessons.

Please let me know if you spot any errors in what I've said.

Thanks,

There's an add on TV that shows a guy who walked into quicksand. Another guy with the party is explaining what should be done in case someone falls into quicksand. As he is explaining to the group and taking a vote on what NEEDS to be done the guy is sinking over his head. Finally, one guy doesn't just talk about what should be done. HE DOES IT.
There's been a lot of talk about someone doing a tutorial on this forum.
Well, Gary, thanks for doing and not just talking about a tutorial. Your site is great! Keep it up.

Thanks. I'm enjoying doing this as I learn how to use AS.

When I posted about Gary doing a tutorial I in no way meant it to be a slam against others on this forum who have in essence been writing a dynamic tutorial. Even the noob is writing his tutorial based on what he is learning from the "PROS" on this forum. This forum, and it's pros, is what makes Anime Studio so great.
My intent was simply to encourage Gary in what he is doing.

2008 Southern poll 2

Post by 1999 »

Let' take a vote on it,Let's tell them we care or we go with this.......step by step,no differents of opinion, winner take all or the dumbest.......or simplest........it would be better than the tutorial. ..........it's crap, they have more in the forum than the crap.(tut).......easy to read too!If it's to much to ask(job or sex) then they win. ..........Website cost to much.......(hahahahaha).contact by PM or e-mail. (we can you know....if it ain't broke or sold)The contest was good but it was a joke, almost nobody show up........ . This would be a show of FORCE.......may the lie's be with you, dunce. It don't look good the way they are telling about the company.......highly up there.....idiot? they had my other lesson remove, you could not talk about the other one I left........the Chapter(s). My god 400 pages........some tutorial, we got here on the disk or online Dummy, that stuff I dont know????????...........Then on the other hand, how can that be?

No problems here.

I also applaud Gary's enthusiasm.

I have been planning for ages to create an actual Anime Studio section of my web site to organize all of my contributions to the forum... the trouble is I have to actually stop using AS long enough to do that  and of course the real world intrudes. ;)

To: 1999,
I appreciate the fact the you are dissatisfied with the direction the program has taken of late, but maybe a more POSITIVE contribution would be better... uh... and some punctuation and spaces after sentences wouldn't be so bad either. I have a picture of you in my head typing frantically in a darkened room while wearing a tinfoil hat. ;)

p.s. My tinfoil hat is at the cleaners.

Part Five

Post by fiziwig »

Part five of my tutorial is up. Part four covered building rigged eyes for the character I'm creating, and Part Five covers switch layers by adding a switched mouth and an interpolated switched nose.

As always, the complete anme files are given, and a preview animation of the results in on the page.

Part Five is at http://fiziwig.com/anim/index05.php

Thank you for your kind remarks. Since I'm a newbie myself, I figured I'm in the right place to write a tutorial for newbies. I won't inadvertently make any assumptions, or assume knowledge beyond what I've covered in the tutorial, since what I've covered in the tutorial up till now is literally ALL I know up till now. hehe.

This morning I knew nothing about switch layers. Tomorrow I'm going to take a look at 3/4 views and head turns. Right now I know absolutely nothing about that subject. I plan to learn it as I teach it.
