are you sure you haven't any layer as background?
AS recognizes as alpha the background which haven't any drawing on it.

in which software are you composing the video?

if you still having problems, can you upload your .anme file to see what could be wrong?

I don't think I have a background layer. it appears to only be a bone layer. I'm using the sample from the tutorial called Winsor 45 and importing it into Apple Motion (compositing program).

thanks!

It may be the Codec you are using as well.

I think quicktime may export an alpha'd video with the animation codec...been awhile since I have done that. Could be wrong.

I seem to remember the documentation saying that the PC codecs couldn't do alphas unless you loaded a special codec. Haven't tried it though.

A series of PICT files might do it as well.

I don't see PICT as being an option. JPG yes. Tried it as a QT Animation but still no luck.

You might find exporting in png sequences better - you can then use these streams in a composite program like Combustion. The flexibility is very useful.
