Haven't tested this so far. Maybe I'll try later.

I've had more than one uncompressed QT imported into an AS file without problems. They were exported from one AS file and imported into another. These were HUGE GIGANTIC uncompressed NTSC format movie files. Render time was slow but they looked fine.

This is a wild guess but it might have to do with mixing different types of AVI with different codecs? AS uses QT as the basis for it's image and movie import.

when I dump in the avi. 's movie that were directly just rendered out of a.s. they are chopped in half like a mirror filter
I don't understand codecs plus that it came right out of A.S.

I don't understand this. A mirror filter?

Remember that the same fps must be used for both the AS project AND the imported movie or avi. If the avi is at a different fps it will play slow or fast depending on the fps of the AS project.

I think AS uses whatever codecs are available for export with whatever is installed. I have no experience with exporting AVIs so I don't know the specifics for that.

You choose a compression method when exporting. Those export compression settings (codecs) aren't built in to AS, they are part of the system as far as I know. For instance if you have QT Pro with a bunch of extra codecs you can use those when exporting from AS. Someone with AS who doesn't have QT pro won't have those available.

I really can't say what the problem is in you situation. I've never had issues using QT export.
