finished a 72 frame animation. upon reviewing it i would like the
1st and last frames to last 20frames each and each of the other
70 frames to be 3 frames each. therefore 250 frames from 72.
how would this be made possible?

Anyway:
1) You cannot enlarge one frame only. You need to enlarge from frame A to frame B to be frame A' to frame B'. Always enlarge a time segment, not a single frame.
2) The project duration can be set at project settings using File menu. Enter the number you want for End Frame (3000 is the maximum for AS non pro version).
3) You can rescale the animation length using the Rescale keyframes menu entry from Animation menu. I don't know if that option exists in AS non pro. I recommend do it by steps from left to right (in terms of time). That is, first rescale a portion of animation of frames 1 to 2. Then rescale the resulting frames and so on.

free trial version of AS. i get the impression it is 5. Standard pared
down. the 49$ version with out being able to render or export work.
i tried something like what you suggested, however i will go back and
look at it again.
a while later : ok that rescaled the animation however the gray high-
lighting at the top of the time line only extends to the original 72
frames and on play back keeps looping threw those frames. if i drag
the slider the rest is there, how do i get it included in the play back?
can i make a seperate 20 frame animation and splice it onto this
animation?
