Help with binding layers and points to bones

Post by pozlang »

I have been dealing with boning by creating a separate bone layer for each body part, as when I try to use one bone layer I end up distorting nearby body parts that should not move. The bone strength is adjusted so that this shouldn't happen and the parenting is correct. I have tried to use the bind points and bind layers to no avail. I would really like to reduce the number of bone layers I am using, but I can't get the rigging right!

Any thoughts? snark? Requests for me to explain my problem more clearly?

Thanks!

On your bone layer go into layer settings/bones and turn on region binding. Presto -- the bone weights then will only affect those points they directly cover (or, in the case of not being covered at all, by the nearest bone).

Note that to work this best you should move the body parts away from each other (move the arms and legs away from the body, the head from the body) and then use the offset bone command to move back into position).

Especially the "offset bone" tool part.

Ha! Thanks! I'd been wondering why anyone would choose to "offset" a bone.
