using ms paint for characters and backgrounds

to keep my animations simple i've been using ms paint to create my characters and backgrounds. however i can't overlap them in anime studio because the white background for the character covers my backgrounds. anybody know what i'm talking about and have a fix.

Using a raster image editor (Gimp is a free one) remove the white part of the images and make it transparent. Save the images in PNG format or other image format that supports alpha channel. Then the white background would disappear in your animations.
