Smith Micro's official announcement
I got an e-mail today from Smith Micro saying that "our transition from e frontier to Smith Micro is now complete." I'm wondering what this means for our long-delayed Anime Studio v5.6. By now, it almost feels as though it should be v6!
I got that email too that mentioned getting 20% off if you confirm your email. I have to say that it looked really suspicious to me. For one thing, all of the links point to some weird web domain [http://dr.bluehornet.com]. Also, I received the same email a few days later, with a slightly different subject.
20% off is a good deal, but I don't want to risk downloading malware. Did anyone else get this email? If it is a scam, how did they get hold of our email addresses? I might send Smith Micro an email asking them if the deal is legitimate.

I just tried out the link you mention here and it says that the site isn't Mac compatible.Rudiger wrote:I got that email too that mentioned getting 20% off if you confirm your email. Great, another company that overlooks its Mac customer base. I was starting to think those days were history.
Then again, you could be right -perhaps this is some shady, fly-by-night link.
Digital River purchased "Blue Hornet". I don't know any details other than dr.bluehornet.com is a "legitimate" web site. Apparently this is a web company that handles discounts and deals for other companies. This does not GUARANTEE that the emails are legit if the links are "spoofed" somehow.
Like I said, I don't know any specific details other than dr.bluehornet.com is not some kind of shady web site.

Nice!
BTW They are very knowledgeable about spam, because one of their products is called Spamcatcher.
Seriously, as a Mac user I don't have any good experiences with Smith Micro. Their product Stuffit Expander is preloaded on every Mac, but many Mac users seem to prefer other solutions, like TheUnarchiver, because it isn't so, well, possessive. Stuffit Expander is considered as crapware by some (you know, what is preloaded on cheap PCs nowadays, and you have to pay a premium on when you don't want it).
So, knowing this, it doesn't surprise me at all that they communicate to their customers in this specific wording. I personally think it is rather obnoxious.
My 2 cents.
