To Smith Micro or... whoever gives a flying fig about AS
It seems the very people who made Moho and AS as popular as it is are getting the SHAFT!
I keep holding back... I keep trying to keep a positive attitude... but it just keeps going down hill. You seem to be fulfilling all the expectations of the people who EXPECTED this to happen.
I understand you have made available the new version to NEW USERS when purchasing but NO FREAKING UPDATE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE WAITED A YEAR OR MORE.
Some say this isn't true... what the heck is going on?
If anyone out there is listening (I doubt it), this is HEYVERN! The freaking biggest die hard fan of AS and I'm starting to get seriously annoyed by a total lack of feedback from ANYONE!
Come on you IDIOTS! This forum is a gold mine. The people here contribute the only serious information about it's use beyond the manuals. Up until the book came out (which isn't free) this was the ONLY place to get answers. Those of us WHO REALLY CARED ABOUT AS are the ones spending the extra effort to PROMOTE YOUR FREAKING SOFTWARE.
If it weren't for the answers and resources available here most of your customers would have thrown in the towel ages ago.
Tell us SOMETHING FOR GOODNESS SAKES! Good news, bad news, I don't care... just SAY SOMETHING.... ANYTHING. What the heck is going on? Where is the update? Even if you want me to pay for it I need to know.
Tell us to take a flying leap or to be patient... ANYTHING. Now this forum is flaking out... broken for nearly a week. The best resource for in depth info on AS and you guys seem to have abandoned it.
I actually get sad thinking about what might have been. What AS could have been by now. What a waste.
I'm going to keep using it... but I'm losing my die hard fan status. It's hard for the passenger of a sinking ship to stay positive when the crew is on a life boat waving goodbye. In order to keep AS going you need this forum and those of use who have supported hell or high water.
The majority of the "old timers" here are the customers who should have had first crack at any new version. Those of us who know the program inside and out could have seriously gotten the hang of the new stuff and been ahead of the game.
NOW you have a new version we can't even talk about.

I kind of cringed a little when I saw this thread got bumped. I must have been pretty fired up when I wrote that. I was frustrated because I just assumed we would get first notice of the update HERE. I was annoyed at the time about the total and complete lack of communication or recognition of the members of this forum.
Many members of this forum have been using AS since it was Moho. Long time members. I was considered a "newbie" when I signed up. I started using Moho 5.3, and there were people using it since like version 1.0 would guess...People who have been waiting for ages for an announcement of the upgrade... on THIS forum.
At the time I was a bit steamed that the upgrade long and patiently awaited by many long time users appeared to be only available to new purchasers of AS. Since then the upgrade became available to everyone... although it was tricky to find... but at least we got it.
Things have gotten a little better. It doesn't take much for me as I stated in the original post. It just takes something, any acknowledgment... any word on status.
Since that post Mike has chimed in a few times to let us know he's still around and he also did another "unannounced" update to fix some issues which is cool. He participated in some discussions regarding image layer rendering issues.
So in conclusion... I do feel "better" about the situation (better is a relative term. If you hit yourself on the head with a rock and then switch to a piece of wood you feel "better" but it still hurts). I do agree that the next full version upgrade will tell a lot about the future of AS... how much will it cost? What new features? What fixes?
In the meantime I'm relatively happy... relatively happy. (I had to take a short break from ASP for a while to work on other things. I haven't been as productive with it or here on the forum as I use to be.)

Remember this? Agent Smith just told me tha 5.6 was not a Smith Micro release. Did anyone else know that?heyvern wrote:It seems the very people who made Moho and AS as popular as it is are getting the SHAFT!

This is the first post I could find that Mike made on 5.6. Mike, was 5.6 really an eFrontier release like Agent Smith said?Lost Marble wrote:Sorry, there's a little miscommunication going on internally. The Linux version of 5.6 was built along with Mac and Windows. We just need to figure out distribution.
As far as I know, this will be Smith Micro's only Linux product (it was the only one for e frontier too), and it always seems a little awkward to find a place for a non-Mac, non-Windows product.
Even though the self space is virtual, you still need to figure out how to fit it in there...
-Mike
I believe that the 5.6 upgrade was "during" the transition to Smith Micro. Keep in mind they had just invested in the ENTIRE efrontier product line. they had more than AS to deal with.
In most likelihood, AS 5.6 was already being worked on before the SM take over of the product line. I don't know for sure. It doesn't matter now it's all water under the bridge. It's old news.
I remember that incident. What got me fired up was the same thing that has some people fired up now. The exact same thing. Maybe it was worse or maybe not. The difference being I guess this time... I did have some "inside information". Not fair for me to use that as justification for my behavior recently but it is pertinent.
As for when or who released 5.6? I think it isn't really important now. What's done is done. There is no going back. Just keep looking forward. Keep your chin up. Think positive thoughts.
p.s. The one good thing about all of this... holy COW! People unfamiliar with AS might see all of this passion and emotion about an... application... and think it has cocaine in it like German Red Bull and buy it up like CRAZY!
(I always suspected there was "something funky" in Red Bull.)
