the Future of books

Post by tsurubaso »

Hello every body,
I am now trying to regroup some documentation about the future of the book industry,

why here on a computer graphic, animation related site ask this question???

Because I believe, but not sure to be right, that the future of books is here...

Why ask now???

I am in Japan, there book industry is in a particular shape, in japan the bookstore does not buy the books, editors just gain the right to expose it, and if a book have no success it is return to the editor. the cost of unsold book storing is what is progressively pooling down editors. Editors in there quest for blockbuster book, increase the number of books reducing the time of exposition of books, in the same time, inflation push the everyone to cut on unnecessary costs like leathure .
As a result, more and more book are maid for nothing,

As always, there is some kind of solutions...

http://www.adobe.com/epaper/ebooks/ebookmall/

but this market is still...anecdotal...

what is your point of view about this problem?

My point of view is that Adobe charge way too much for all their products and love to spam their target market instead of offering realistic prices.

Yeah this sounds like f***ing spam, if only because it is posted in the wrong place. Might have got away with this one in 'Miscellaneous chit chat'.

eBooks will never replace traditional media -- never.

It's like saying computer art will replace paintings you can hang on your wall, or virtual reality will replace people going outside and doing things. eBooks have their place, but until they come up with the "paperlike" foldable monitor (had this on the drawing board as long as five years ago -- probably will not be in my lifetime, though) only a very small minority of people will put up with all the hassle of an electronic book.

Now, electronic documentation of software almost has replaced traditional docs -- probably to the detriment of us all -- but that's a completely different ball game. Note that such documentation in other areas has not followed the same route.

(And, yes, why the heck is this thread here? Kind of pointless).

you are right.

Should post somewhere else, but let me go directly to my conclusion.

In the future books will still be printed that what I hope but there will be an other media, yet to be created, fixed. This will combine writing, movie, audio. but the base will be a wrote story telling. this will be portable.

This is pretty vague, an general ideas...
but people that come here will be may be part of the creation of this media.
that why I post here, but I post in others places all around the forums,...in different countries networks.

to go back to the future of books
here are some articles in french about that

And The general reaction I read all around is "I love book", "I love the contact of it".
Me too.
But this industry is facing a problem, like lot other industries, raw material price increase, multiplication of the offer by the book industry it self, more and more books, that stay less and less time in books shops.
Even if you love and I love books, a company can not face this problem long.

Remember that is the Japan situation. I don't know for other countries.

But I have to say that there is also books that sale well...
big marketing...
big company...
big money involve...
big author...

innovation, is our only way to survive when we are not big.

I need a engine for my custom chopper. One place had books the other had computer documentation that they had to pay for every 6 months. I had original put the bike together in 96 and in 02 the engine went, my fault. Four weeks ago I decide to get another motor. The place with the computer docs was totally useless. They couldn't do any cross reference to the new engine numbers. The books, with help from their distributer figure out what was the replacement engine.

I have come to the conclusion that computer documentation is a new way for a company to squeeze the independent repair shops.

The good news is I did get the new motor in, gave it a quickie pant job and rode it at the Harley Rendezvous.

I think your bike is much more interesting Duey,8)
Have a look at this custom paint I did on a mates custom race bike he built.
he wanted a 'geiger'.
It's a 500 2 stroke in a 250 frame.
