Highly Illogical!

Post by spoooze! »

Hey all,

I've completed my latest short film Highly Illogical. It's a song that aired on the Dr. Demento show and is sung by none-other then the pointy eared man himself... Leonard Nimoy... aka SPOCK from Star Trek!

Enjoy!

Cute.

There are all kinds of possibilities with the "Golden Throats" albums (at least two CDs worth of Nimoy, Shatner and other "singers" doing their best to... well, "sing").

I had an animation of Shatner doing "Lucy in the Sky" that was pretty good -- have to try and dig it up and post it sometime. He could be very very scary.

Hmmmm, never saw that. Probably most interesting thing was the Spock ears worn by all the backup singers (I'm sure they were supposed to be elven ears, right? :>)

I suspect this (the albums Nimoy and Shatner released during this period) was an effort to capitalize not so much on the Trek show (which was pretty much over by then) but somehow to be "with it" and "mod" and in the 60's. The problem with folks who tried this (wearing Nehru jackets and long hair when they were over 30 years old) was they just didn't connect with the younger generation. Those of us who were young just laughed at them (and not with them) and they never could figure it out.

Probably like I would look and sound if I tried to make an MTV video today (which is why my target audience is old folks -- at least I understand THAT generation :>) I know I'm out of it when I don't understand the promos for Nick at Night's cartoon swim.

Well, whatever his other talents, you'd think someone would have told Leonard Nimoy at some stage that he was a tone-deaf no-hoper as a singer. You're right, it's funny for all the wrong reasons. Couldn't watch more than 30 seconds' worth...!
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Finally got around to putting it up on YouTube. Here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_myrJF7HWE

We used only a small part of this for a "coming attractions" clip within our weekly show ("Never Too Late"). So the rest of it isn't very polished (not to say that anything I do is very polished -- time is always more of a factor :>) but I wanted to finish the whole thing to include on the DVD (besides, Shat is just plain fun to animate -- like most good voice actors he is WAY over the top. The problem, of course, is that he acts this way even when it's not voice acting <bg>).

If I remember correctly (and I may not) this was on his "Transformed Man" album, which a friend of mine had. Nothing about the album was tongue-in-cheek -- it seemed like it took itself *very* seriously. (About half of the album was straight Star Trek music from the show). Whether Billy himself felt that way or not is something we'll never know.

Certainly in later years he has made a career out of poking fun at his image, but I'm never quite sure if it's informed or simply a clever move by his agent.

Ah, my old mind still works. I just did this search:

http://www.amazon.com/Transformed-Man-W ... 293&sr=8-1

Now, I am going to go out on a limb here and say that this is NOT the entire original album. I remember very clearly that half of the album was Star Trek music (the reason my friend bought it in the first place). Indeed, the original artwork had Captain Kirk standing there with a model of the Enterprise. But the new cover picture of the CD was on the back.

More importantly, you can clearly see how serious this album was intended -- read the reviews and you'll see that many people STILL take it seriously. I dunno, whether Shatner thought he could sing or not I still think it was a serious error in judgment to interpret these songs that way.

That was great spoooze! :D I know that the audio wasn't your own but with your new line-styled characters, animation, creativity and a professional audio file, that was very entertaining. ;)

But don't put Average Joe on the side burner just yet... I still enjoy those. :)

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm glad you added me to your animation, LOL!
