Commercial animation

Post by cuebit »

Hi all,

It's just been a while that i visited this forum.
Over the past month i worked on different animations.
The last one is mostly done in AS.

It's viewable at this link on youtube.

Nice one. I think the style could be improved a bit, but it does the job.

I noticed that you are about to fall into the 'antic/settle' abuse system as it was called here: http://mymedicatedlife.blogspot.com/200 ... steps.html. There's a sequence of movements in the beginning where you applied that approach to every movement in the very same speed and amount, which makes it look too repetitive.

And if you look at the box into which some item is inserted, you give it a squash, but only vertically - it isn't stretched horizontally, as it should do to maintain its volume. If you use the layer scale tool (2), just press the option key while scaling - one of the most useful tricks of AS.

Hi Slowtiger,

I think your defenately right about everything.

By the way, the topic you linked was great to read.
That's what make me think there is still a lot to learn.

All the animation was done in two days because longwaited for copywrite was delivered very late.

I guess i did not dive deep enough into the animation to avoid the repetetiveness.
Allthough i have a good understanding of anticipation or 'antics' it had not crossed my mind to use it at different speed.
It' s a bit of lazyness that came to me after animating for 20 episodes of a dutch television series wich had to be made under a tight budget.

So i really have to thank you for pointing this out.

However, as Bitter Animator writes on his blogspot
If they were to actually animate the scenes well and treat each scene as its own piece, they'd never hit their targets
Can be applied to me in this case.

Don't blame yourself too much - everybody who has to work under a tight deadline tends to work with a formula. I myself did it for sure!
