I have been given a file to fix for a friend who was using a tablet to draw characters in AS. When I rendered an image the black outline and other line details in the character were completely gone leaving it looking pale and ghost like!!! I could not figure what was happening for ages till I eventually noticed that there was a brush setting used on the outline. Once I removed the brush the outlne re-appeared i the render.
It looks like a combination of line width tool and a brush can have some ugly side effects on rendering in AS. Has anyone come across this one before?
Cheers

Linewidth tool and brushes weirdness

Hi Slow.
Here's part of the file. I can't upload the whole thing as it's not mine but this is a good indication of what's happening.

The head orginal layer is with the brush...and the head without brush has the brush removed and renders fine.
Cheers

Try this: select all in the vector layer of the head, and increase the line width with the W tool. In the render you'll see the applied brush (some weird barbed wire effect).
It is normal behaviour for a brush to replace the vector line - otherwise it wouldn't make any sense.
I think the line width was changed somehow, that's all. Not that the brush was a good choice, IMO, but it's definitely still there.
Overall I think the line width is too small in relation to the project size. As a rule of thumb, try to avoid thin lines which would be only 1 pixel or smaller because they will cause problems in the render or don't show up at all. A line of at least 2 or 3 px width will definitely look better in TV resolution. When I work in HDTV, my minimum size is about 4 to 5 px.
