Importing movie sequence - which MOV

Is there a particular version of Quicktime which ASPro supports for import?

Also, what would be the best (quickest&cheapest) route to convert .mp4 files into either an .mov or .avi in order to import into ASPro.

Quicktime is Quicktime, with the .mov file extension. What you maybe refer to is the specific codec inside the .mov file.

From experience we recommend the codec "PNG" with the option "+millions of colours" because this seems to be the only codec which reliably preserves transparency in a video file. This might only be important for those who create their own video files in AS or another program and re-import them into AS.

Video files from elsewhere are imported without problems, but the image quality is only as good as the source, AS can't do any magic about that.

Yes, codec but also whether the actual version of Quicktime used to make the .mov makes a difference.

I've tried importing a few .mov files that play on my PC and all I get is the missing file Icon in preview, render, and export animation.

Do I need to install additional Quicktime software to be able to import in ASPro? I also have Sony Vegas studio on the PC which is also supposed to support Quicktime.

I have QT Pro on my Mac and some of the codecs do not export from AS for some reason. I think it is the H.264 codec? Not sure the problem but it only exports a movie file with one frame when I use that codec.

I generally use either no compression or DV if I want highest quality for other applications like iMovie or AE, or mpeg4 for small previews. I've never tried the PNG QT export. QT has a PNG option? Didn't know that.

Vern: yes, some codecs don't work with applications which render one frame at a time, because they use frame re-ordering for compression. H264 is one of them. In order to use those, I have to render the clip into some other codec first (like "animation"), then export it from a video editor (iMovie is good enough).

Roger: I know from people using Vegas (over in the TVP forum) that they don't have problems using QT. It's all a question of finding the correct settings. The QT version shouldn't matter at all - any QT 7 subversion should do. As for compatibility, the QT version a file was created with is completely ignored. Only the codec matters.
