What am I doing wrong?--Creating & Filling Shapes

Post by pauze »

Hi. I'm brand new to ASPro. I've gone through the tutorials, multiple times, but I'm still having trouble figuring out the simple business of creating and filling shapes.

Here's what I do:

I create the outline using the freehand tool. Fine.
I make sure it is welded shut. (I have AutoWeld on.)
I select it with the Create Shape tool, making sure all its points are selected. Great.
I press the space bar. Swell.
It seems to now be a shape. That is, it lets me name it in the Style window and I can see it when I do a preview or render.
BUT...
I cannot fill it, not with the Fill tool, not with the Select Shape tool. Neither recognize it as a shape. Furthermore, in the Styles window, the Enable Fill check box is grayed out.

Obviously I'm doing some stupid, simple, basic thing wrong, but after trying this again and again and redoing the tutorials again and again I cannot figure out what.

Can anyone show me where I'm messing up?

Thanks!

Never mind...I think I figured it out.

Switching to Wireframe mode made it clear that I had tiny areas where edges were overlapping, allowing me to have an outline, but not a shape.

So finicky, these vectors.

Thanks for taking the time to read my query and being willing to help.
