video program

In the same vein, I am looking for a video
program that is suitable for animation.

It would hopefully be able to work with
sequential PNG files, and have good
Alpha channel stuff.

I just blew 80 dollars on Pinnacle 12
and boy does is suck. What a waste!

Yeah, you get what you pay for, unfortunately.

I use Premiere Pro and there is nothing better. I've been told that iMovie (for the Mac) is excellent (and, I guess, free -- except you need to buy a Mac :>). Vegas Video is okay -- I've used it for MPEG editing but it still doesn't feel as "right" to me as Premiere.

Speaking of free, Microsoft Movie Maker has actually gotten some good reviews. I've never tried it myself but if you have more time than you do money...

iMovie works pretty well for basic stuff. Final Cut Express would be next, it's about 250€ here and a real professional application. I've heard other people using Vegas for professional work successfully.

Adobe Premiere Element 7 is reasonably priced and more stable. Best buy has both Photoshop & Premiere Element 7 on sale for $99

I've been using Norkross Movie for editing movies together. I used to use iMovie, and it's good, but I like this program better. It doesn't import image sequences, but I do that in Quicktime Pro, then import the resulting movie into NorkrossMovie. Here's a link.

I just realized that Norkross is, I think, Mac only, and you didn't say if you're using a Mac or Windows. But if you're on a Mac, check it out.

If you like a basically Windows Movie Maker environment, there's a free editor by Debug Mode called Wax with more bells and whistles.
