Hello again

Finally got some time to finish that character, it's not perfect, needs better styles, maybe a lill more animation to it but for a first attempt at animating I am pleased enuf!

Very good work. I like the way the chest expands with the motion. I assume that is built into the rig to work with the arms? I think two small things would really help here.

If the arms bent a little at the elbows, it wouldn't look so mechanical. Also the head is a little too differentiated from the body. It looks like it isn't really attached. Removing the black outline may help, or getting its color tone closer to the body's. The hands work well, so I assume it's the outline that's throwing it off for me.

Very nice deformation so far.

Thanks for the reply, the deformation is animated by hand, mostly selection, rotation and magnet tool. lightened the contour line.

Made some shadow tests with it, here is the result

I ve hadded shadow masks for the arms and head so they appear darker and shorter on the body, actually lots of fun, great way to learn as well.

Much better. The body parts look integrated now.

If you understand masking in AS you are far ahead of the game. I dare say there are a few pros who only begrudgingly deal with much masking.

At this rate, you'll be helping to field questions in no time.

Hello again!

You are too kind, though I must say AS makes it easy. My goal here is to find the proper software for an animated movie, I must admit AS is tempting.

As for masks, nothing to it really, just a bit of organisation, the way I did it for the Monster is probablly not the best way to do it, but it works, which is fine.

I like the model.

However, I think the arms should have a bit of overlapping action before they hit the final pose:

looking good! I like all the changes suggested by Synth - they really improved it. I think the arm movement is a little too 'metronomic' (is that a word? it is now!)... i imagine a big beasty like that not to swing his arms around when he breaths - in a crouch maybe rest is forearms on his thighs and just expand the chest/shoulders with very slight movement in the forearms...

You really seem to be grasping the software very well - as Synth said, masking is considered somewhat of a dark art my most :)

Keep up the good work.

Thanks

Yeah, well, that project was a learning one, not going anywhere, next i'll go and make some character animation, maybe i'll make a short anim with Akhesa from La Reine Soleil, since it became such a big frill on this forum, also because I love the movie! 8)

Actually, will start on it today, so keep your eyes open for a new topic, will need some inputs :)
